The cap broke late on this day and with the weaker shear in the evening it gave a spectacular lightning display with plenty of CGs near my house!

It was looking like another day of storms for SE Queensland, but that didn’t quite happen.  But that didn’t phase me too much as I was working until 5pm and couldn’t really chase anything during the day!  However late in the afternoon there were some nice signs of convection around, particularly to my NW and on the ranges with some weaker storms developing in the Downs.

It took a while for things to really get going, but by 6pm when it was getting dark some of the cells to my south were starting to put out some nice lightning!  I was able to take a few shots south of my house, before heading NE out of some rain to get in front of some cells that were about to move over (or just north of) my house and into the Lockyer Valley.  The CG rate was quite phenomenal!!!  Lightning was very frequent, several flashes a second with heaps of CGs!  Unfortunately towards the end of it the rain began to shroud the CGs a little, but I was still able to get some nice lightning photos which is what I had hoped to do as I have still been testing out my new camera with lightning and was quite pleased with some of the results!!!  The following pictures can all be clicked on for larger images:

Certainly one of the better CG shows I’ve been treated to!  Here's an assortment of other photos, but I've shrunk them.

And some photos of the cell that gave Michael Bath and Dave Ellem 5-6cm hail in NE NSW!  (Link to their report coming soon!)
