A hot day with many hours in the sun...finally gives way to a very photogenic (but destructive) squall line.

I was housesitting for my parents west of Brisbane. One of my housemates came over for a couple of days to hang out for a bit. We decided to go chasing during the afternoon and got lunch in Rosewood before sitting and waited. And we waited...and waited...and waited! All in mid to high 30s heat and high humidity.
A line of storms developed near Moree and gave destructive winds to the Bogabilla and Goondiwindi area before pushing eastwards. The line weakened in the eastern Downs, but once it hit the coastal moisture it absolutely exploded just before sunset! The new camera got a good workout, in particular the use of higher ISOs (with very clean images). Earlier in the afternoon, another storm did develop near Aratula but unfortunately collapsed.
We watched the line intensify rapidly just north of Warril View...

We then went to the Mobil to wait for the storm (at Amberley), but the winds never got overly strong although we did get some briefly heavy rain. Still, was a great chase and was awesome to have the new camera that performed so well at the higher ISOs and low light! |
