The major feature of this day was riding the boundary of a weak SE'ly change.  It was quite a warm day, and there was a weak SE'ly change pushing up the coast, but it was lagging inland!  The 4pm MSL from the BoM shows this well.

Here you can see a small trough inland, and SE change pushing up the coast.  This supercell rode the boundary of the weak SE change and the NE'lies just to the W of the SE change.
