Sometimes when you have a massive line of storms move through the day before it can stabilize things…and that happened today, although some nice morning cells developed along the coast. But things really struggled – Macca and I had chaser convergence near Yamanto as we watched a small cell bubble away near Marburg. Even Channel 7’s Today Tonight tagged along eager to get a story! The cell didn’t end up doing too badly – it moved eastwards and intensified on the seabreeze front and event had a very nice inflow band but it didn’t survive past the seabreeze front. However it did produce golfball hail over south Brisbane! It soon died, and I ended up heading south towards another nice cell near Beaudesert that was approaching the Gold Coast. I got a few nice shots of it at sunset, but it too was weakening. However a line had developed west of Southeast Queensland and was approaching NE NSW also. So I decided to head down towards Lismore and met up with Bryan on the way! But alas…the chase was going to become frustrating, the lightning really died off as we got close to it (though the guster wasn’t too bad when illuminated by lightning). However, just near my house some cells really intensified as the seabreeze hit them! But oh well, you can’t win them all – we headed back north and enjoyed some nice lightning and rain over the Gold Coast from the cells which was still nice to watch! The next day, there were some nice pulse storms that produce some really nice updrafts and anvils though which I was able to enjoy from my work! ![]()
