These high instability and low shear days certainly test your patience! Everytime you head to a cell it died and the one you were on had a new pulse and argh!!! But in the end, patience of sitting in the same area that continued to look promising paid off. I met up with Bryan near Aratula, and we circled around the area for quite some time! In fact, an hour prior to sunset I was beginning to think “Well, I hope the line out west arrives here this evening produces some nice lightning.” Well, it did! But two strong cells on the ranges we were watching (and eagerly waiting for them to move off the ranges), collided and quickly moved E/SE for a short burst. That rapidly developed an awesome gustfront on the edge of it!
We shot through Kalbar then out towards Roadvale where we watched it slide to our southeast before punching through the now-weakening cells to get on the other side and get into position for the approaching line of storms. Only Bryan’s alternator began to play up – so we decided to go straight to my place and just enjoy the show from there as if the alternator died and his battery went flat he would have no lights to drive with! In the end, it ended up being a good move with some awesome CGs around my place of which since we were under cover, we able to get some good shots – including one that hit a tree! Interested
